Acupressure: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that illness results from something either interfering with the flow of energy or creating an imbalance in different bodily organs. Using finger pressure on certain points on the body, hands, ears or feet that correspond to points on the energy pathways unblocks or redirects the energy flow.
Acupuncture: A form of Chinese medicine that involves placing thin stainless steel needles into various places of the body and manipulating them to relieve pain, illness or chronic conditions. It is a painless procedure that stimulates the body's "chi" energy to restore balance and harmony. There are more than 600 "acu-points" in a human body. Most of them are located on the arms and legs. When one feels pain or discomfort in a certain part of the body, an acupuncturist can provide relief by inserting one or several fine, solid needles into the proper "acu-points". Depending on the condition and severity, it may require from one to more than ten treatments for pain control. Treatment sessions are usually 30 minutes to one hour. The needles may be twirled or moved up and down to increase the effectiveness. Very low voltage and low current electrical stimulation is applied through the needles. The carefully controlled current is applied by a 9-volt battery.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, the student will have become familiar with the aspects mentioned in the COURSE CONTENTS and confident in the usage of acupressure techniques. The student will learn about using Acupressure techniques as a healing modality to care for his/her own health, family's health, or start an acupressure health career.
