DESCRIPTION: This test assesses 13 organic acids in first morning spot urine. The organic acids measured in this panel are central components or intermediates in metabolic pathways of energy conversion related to the Kreb (citric acid) cycle and the production of ATP-the cell's main fuel source. It evaluates cellular energy metabolism related to fatigue and associated symptoms. The Cellular Energy Profile measures a special grouping of organic acids. These metabolites primarily reflect: Carbohydrate metabolism, Mitochondrial function and Oxidation of fatty acids.
The Cellular Energy Profile is particularly relevant for the chronically “unwell” individual who may be experiencing: generalized pain and fatigue, which may arise in response to toxic exposure, nutrient imbalances, digestive dysfunction, intestinal dysbiosis, dysglycemia [blood sugar imbalances], oxidative stress, poor diet, multiple chemical sensitivities, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, malaise, hypotonia (loss of muscle tone), pH imbalances, low exercise tolerance, muscle/joint pain and headache and other causes.
