Estrogen is a necessary hormone for men, but too much causes a wide range of health problems. High estrogen levels in men can result in: increased breast size, darkening of nipples, slower growth of facial hair, feminization of body shape, more feminine complexion, increased risk of breast and prostate cancer, increase the chance of liver or gall bladder disease or tumors, decrease the size of testicles, lower interest in sex, erratic mood swings, increased feelings of emotion, increase the chance of blood clots. The most dangerous acute effect of excess estrogen and too little testosterone is an increased risk of heart attack or stroke. High levels of estrogen have been implicated as a cause of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH).
In men, a healthy level of progesterone supports prostate health. If a man has estrogen dominance, adding natural progesterone [particularly the cream] lowers estrogen dominance in men; It reduces prostate size; Reduces prostatism (benign enlargement of the prostate gland) symptoms, such as urinary urgency and frequency; Enhances libido (sex drive); Osteoporosis prevention; may decrease male balding due to the corresponding rise in testosterone; Helps with rheumatoid arthritis, particularly when the cream is rubbed into the joints. Also, progesterone has no feminizing characteristics.
For women, recent research is finding that only about 15% of breast cancers are genetically prompted. The other 85% are caused by estrogen dominance. The other reason for estrogen dominance is that progesterone levels typically decline before menopause starts and this is followed by a decline in estrogen. Progesterone production tends to fall to almost zero while estrogen declines to about 40% to 50%. This situation leads to an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone causing an increase in estrogen activity. The toxic excess estrogen circulates thru the bloodstream as it looks for estrogen receptors to make a home. The receptors are the female organs which are the breasts, cervix, ovaries, vagina, fallopian tubes and uterus. When it finds a receptor, it lodges itself as a cyst, either benign or malignant. In the meantime, the constant circulation overwhelms the liver as it attempts to break it down. Excessive catabolic or anabolic activity has been linked with disease process. More commonly seen, a shift toward catabolic dominance increases with age and may be associated with the whole-body effects of aging. Causes of Catabolic shift: Catabolic shift is associated with: Aging, Anxiety, Insomnia, Depression, Hypoxia [low oxygen], Cognitive decline, Chronic stress, Poor healing, Chronic illness, Muscle and tissue degeneration, Hypoglycemia, diabetes, Cardiovascular disease and Proinflammatory immune dysregulation. Steroid balance affects the aging process. There is a natural process of wear and tear that we all suffer from no matter who we are. The process of growth and re-growth in bones, cartilage and other tissues is known as anabolic. The process of tissue breakdown is catabolic. The key to slowing the aging process is to keep the body in balance for as long as possible to prevent catabolic dominance. Life stages can be generalized as anabolic (growth – i.e. the first 20 years of life), balanced (ages 20-40/70 depending on if the processes of repair and breakdown are in balance) and catabolic (when wear exceeds repair). During catabolic dominance, we typically store more calories than we can use, and the majority of us begin to put on weight. Our ability to heal is compromised; wounds, for example, take longer to mend, and are more likely to become infected. In general, the rate at which we can re-build and renew our tissues declines, and is overtaken by the processes of decay. Bit by bit, tissue damage accumulates, whether it is the slow silting of an artery, the equally slow thinning of the cartilage in a hip or knee; or the silent dying of our brain cells. We grow slow, ill and fat, and by the time we emerge, blinking, into the 6th decade of life, 5 out of 6 of us have the symptoms of one or more of the degenerative diseases, and the majority of us are overweight.
Catabolic dominance happens because, as we age, we become ever more depleted in the nutrients needed for tissue repair, and also in the nutrients needed to slow tissue decay. In other words, if we increase the nutrients we can decrease aging. With adequate nutrition and detoxification, modern research scientists and aging experts have documented that the human body is designed to live for 120 years-- disease-free!!! This means without wrinkles, age spots, gray hair, thin hair, senility, poor memory, bone and joint disorders, heart problems, lung problems, digestive problems, kidney and liver problems, nervousness, shakiness, vision problems, hearing problems, varicose veins, weakness, fatigue, aches and pains, prostate problems, cancer, or low sex drive.
What is methylation? In simple terms it is a process in which certain chemicals called ‘methyl groups’ are added to various constituents of proteins, DNA and other molecules. These are needed to keep them in good ‘working’ condition. For example, if the antidepressant, ‘feel-good’ brain chemical serotonin is not methylated it will become inactive which in turns leads to depression! This is just one of the many ‘chemicals’ in the body that need to be methylated and if they are not can lead to serious health consequences. If your body's methylation is not working at an optimal level it will translate into many different health problems and will accelerate your aging process.
