Reflexology: Ancient Oriental Medicine that involves applying pressure to certain points in the head, hands or feet that correspond to different parts and organ systems of the body. Reflexology is the application of pressure, stretch and movement to the feet and hands to effect corresponding parts of the body. Reflexologists view the feet and hands as a mirror image of the body. By applying technique, a reflexologist can break up patterns of stress in other parts of the body. The applied pressure stimulates a flow of energy needed for healing. The technique also improves circulation and eliminates toxins. Usually, Reflexology deals with the feet. It is believed that a pathway exists from the soles of the feet to the emotions. Different people hold their tensions in different places of the body. By massaging and manipulating the feet, we increase circulation throughout the whole body, and give the body a chance to throw off toxins that have formed as tiny crystals on the nerve endings of the feet. The health improvement in Reflexology results in a stronger immune system. Pressure applied to the feet generates a signal through the peripheral nervous system. From there it enters the central nervous system where it is processed in various parts of the brain. It is then relayed to the internal organs to make the necessary adjustments in fuel and oxygen, Finally a response is sent onto the motor system. This message conveys the body to modify its tone or overall tension level. If applied properly the tone will reset itself to a lower speed of operation. A more relaxed speed results in a reduction of stress and less wear and tear on the body's organ systems. The 1996 China Reflexology Symposium Report has found foot reflexology to be 93.63% effective in treating 63 disorders.

In the USA there are no government regulations for using the term Reflexologist. Anyone who feels competent using Reflexology techniques as a healing modality may be referred to as a Reflexologist. However, expertise is based on having a wide-range of proven knowledge and experience in the field. A career as a Reflexologist may involve teaching or counseling others in the use of Reflexology, writing about the use of Reflexology techniques or maintaining a private practice. Reflexology is one branch of Naturopathic Medicine. This online Reflexology course is excellent for beginners as well as for enhancing knowledge in those who are more experienced in the field.
I strongly suggest that anyone who is interested in pursing a career as a Reflexologist consider taking the Nutrition Course #4 as well.
